Whisky Tasting

Darren Raeside, the founder of The Kiltlifters Scotch Club, has chosen 5 whiskys for us to taste. He'll take us on a journey through the highlands, the coasts, and the islands of Scotland without having to leave the forest of The Beer Can!

A ticket will get you a half ounce pour of 5 whiskys. We also have a very special bottle of Glenmorangie Signet that we will sell at cost. Darren grabbed the last bottle in Manitoba and he's generiously offered to part with it. This might be the only time you get to try this very rare spirit, so don't miss it!

Glassware provided you can take home.

"My Grandfather was born in Saltcoats , on the west coast of Scotland. 16 miles from Kilmarnock (the birthplace of Johnny Walker) , and, 1/2 hour from where Robbie Burns was born!

His grandfather was a sea Captain with the Royal fleet.

His place of work would have him meandering the islands and highlands of the West coast of Scotland.

Talisker on the Isle skye. Oban's 'built into the rocks' distillery.

Islay, with her Kidalton 3 distilleries- Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg.

Past the Kidalton Cross- the 2nd oldest celtic cross that is still standing!

Then, up through the Islay Sound. Over looking the paps of Jura, and skirting by, the puffers; dropping barley off to, and, taking barrels of whisky away from the northern Islay workhorses-Caol Isla, Bunnahabhain- respectively.

A very busy time for whisky distilleries! A village was created around each.

Ardbeg, for instance, had its own football team. And, gaelic choir!

My experience was much different to start. A low period for whisk(e)y in general!

As a rep here in Mb. in the mid 90's with- The Balvenie, Glenfiddich, and, Grants.

Selling wines and Spirits in Connecticut, U.S.A. Glenmorangie, Laphroaig, Scapa, Glendronach, Ballantine's, Famous Grouse , and Cutty Sark, I got to know.

My scotch club, The Kiltlifter's, I started in '05, and, is known throughout Canada. It had over 1000 members, pre-covid!

I'm pleased to be able to share some stories, history, and delicious drams with an intimate group of whisky adventurers?

Iconic brands. Epic, sweeping views over the Scottish highlands. Fabled families who conquered the unimaginable dream, and, still, continue to stay on top of the spirit world!

Blends, blended malts, hint ' o peat, heather honey in a dram!

Find out why the mystery of Scotland's greatest export is entering a boom phase in it's roller coaster journey.

Can't wait to share a few of my favourite drams with you in such a cool, relaxed , outdoor setting.

Slainte!"
