Join us for an evening of music with Winnipeg-based artist Rayannah with special guest, Diaphanie on Thursday, August 5th as our Thursday Night Concert Series continues!

Rayannah bends noise into music by running voice, breath, synth and percussion through loop pedals. Underscored by intricate beat-making, her evocative lyrics in French and English rise above dense soundscapes, pulling listeners into a world both dark and sweet. Innovative on stage and in the studio, Rayannah unveiled her first full length album Nos repaires (Our Haunts) in 2019, earning the titles “Francophone Artist of the Year” and “Producer of the Year” at the Western Canadian Music Awards that same year. Whether touring in Europe or at home, fronting her band or performing alone on stage, Rayannah shares something raw and intimate all at once.

Diaphanie means “the art of recreating stained glass on translucent paper”. The name suits, as the grounding feature of this collaborative project is songwriter Heather Thomas’s voice- a rich, fluid, ethereal tone that floats effortlessly from intimate to effusive. Thomas’ voice is a perfect complement to the straightforward storytelling and intricate folk guitar that round out Diaphanie’s sound. There is a delicacy to the interplay between voice and guitar that both hearkens back to earlier times, and at the same moment feels modern and fresh. Despite being conceived at the height of the pandemic, Diaphanie reaches beyond its origins to brighter days and open hearts, always seeking Something Better.
